Bakony Mikulás 30 again. The weather was great and I had a great day. I also did the same stint working at Zörög-tető as last year but earlier, maybe from 15.00 to 18.15. Fehérvári Máté, the organiser, asked me be there from 14.15-18.15but since the same guy, Gyula, did the check-point before me, it was no problem for me to be there later. I ran faster than last year but obviously the weather was better but at the same time I never stopped to walk except on the steep uphills and I don't think that was the case this year. I've just compared my time for the the first and second 10Ks amd first was 1 sec! difference and my 2nd nearly 4 mins faster which is interesting. This year I was able to go the right way in the village at the end so maybe this is one reason I ran a shorter distance than last year. I was so well organised I wore my other watch as well so I know my full time -3.59.15, so that 41.08 difference which is a lot, but of course it includes the pizza and tea stop in Zirc where I still had problems finding the restuarant although I was better than last year. For a lot of the way back I was running with another guy. We weren't actually running together as one of us was always following the other. He arrived as I was drinking my tea having finished off the pizza neither of which he partook in. I set off very soon after him and then for maybe 13 kms which we were going back and forth. In the end he opened up a gap after Porva station which became permanent when had problems with direction going up Zörög hill. I arrived at Porva station just before him and it turned out we were the first 2 to arrive there and the woman doing the stamping wasn't ready us thinking the first people would be another hour. Anyway I farted around there wanting to right my time, distance and amount of climbing up to that point so he opened up a gap which I was slowly closing when I had route finding problems and the next time I saw him was at the end. If I had known that I was going to be able to maintain my pace for the whole way I would have "competed" with him although I was discouraged as he was absolutely unfriendly. It was the first time I had consciously set sight on him but I should remember him if there is a next time as it turned out he was Athosz, Fridrich Laci's friend. His real name if Pali Attila and he lives in Veszprém, or at leasz in the vicinity. I had assumed he was also doing the 40 but no, he did the 40 along with Laci who arrived not long after me and eventually I sat with them. Athosz was able to miss out on the pizza while running because he could organise to pick it up/eat it on the way home. The approach to Zörög-tető which we did isn't hard but it's possible the 50 route way is much harder, in the same was as the route from the village is much harder. I was gobsmacked when I recorded maybe 220 metres of climbing in the first maybe 1.5 kms on the way up to work at the checkpoint. The first time I walked was on the that longer steep uphill before Borzavár and it seemed I was better on the steep uphills than Athosz but he was better on the steep downhills. On the flat I was maybe marginally better than him but of course it's hard to say as he did 10 kms more than me. If I'm fit enough I'd like to do the 40 next year assuming they invite me and the weather makes it possible - I say that because 2 years ago there was snow. Finishing at 18.15 was much better although the way down was still hard as my headlamp batteries seem to suddenly die and I had to walk by the weal light of Yolanda's bak up torch which I luckily took but I found myself squelching in the deep mud at least twice as a result. Nearly did the same as last year and left my gloves at a ckeckpoint - Porva- but thank God the woman realised in time. So from the food point of view there is no need to take any on the 30- Talking about food I was very lucky while working at the checkpoint. I don't know why but I only wanted to eat half of my lunhch why I had prepared but I was hungry later- Anyway there a guy who also did the 30 and then walked up to the checkpont soon after me to wait for his friends who were doing the 50. Anyway Gergő gave me 2 meat sandwiches wrapped in tinfoil and a muesli bar, the latter I brought home. He was there for at least 2 hours so time flew much faster having somebody to talk to. Despite the weather being much better than last year I still had to put on loads of clothes to keep warm. During the actual running I ended up running in just my NB T with the sleeves rolled up.  After showering, lunching etc. I had time to check out the Via Ferrata routes before walking up to the checkpoint. The car journey going was only an hour. I was at Gézaháza in 28.14, 4.15 kms, 213 metres, at Borzavár, 1.55.58, 19.7 kms and 501 metres, and  Porva-Csesznek station in 2.24.52, 25.16 and 535 metres. I learned a shorter way to get to the railway bridge crossing the river but only at the expense of losing my lead! I was 9.65 kms for the first hour and 20.51 for 2 hrs and I was disapponted when I realised I wasn't going to be able to finish with a 10 kph average. My watch recorded a max speed of 27.2!!!!!!. 5.49,6.01,7.12,8.07,6.18,5.28,6.12,5.38,5.35,5.55 (62.15) 5.37,5.29,5.14,5.10,5.11,5.11,6.50,5.03,6.15,5.11 (55.01), 5.03,5.24,5.33,5.46,5.03,6.02,6.55,6.30,8.58,5.59,7.18,8.06,9.9 av. I had almight Ps before I set off but I still needed one during the run. I wore my Salamons with a plaster on the toe which bled last time. it felt like I was going to have a problem with a blister on the underside ofone of my toes but no, so no problems as a result of the shoes. So a difference of 11 secs/km from last year, not a lot in 32 kms. This was written on the Sunday and my right knew hurts as does a muscle above my knee so I'm not sure I can/should go running as I sit here ready to go running. Sunday 19.07 didn't go running but did walk to Spar and back and the only problem was totally new - the back of my leg behind my left leg. For the checkpointing I wore my Nikes and took 3 pairs of socks with me but didn't have to wear any of them.
